Into the Congo – An Introduction

[the html code was corrected – the links should work now]

What I’m finding is that many people within the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) either have little knowledge of how their own mission board, the International Mission Board (IMB), operates or have more misconceptions than fact, yet still give to the December Lottie Moon offering. Hopefully this will give a window into the work of the IMB, into the life of a current missionary, and into the lives of IMB applicants…

First, WATCH A VIDEO about J.D. Tidenberg and his most recent work to meet with the Taabwa people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Watching the video is foundational to understanding this post!
Second, VISIT THE CESA WEBSITE to see the IMB’s vision to reach sub-Saharan Africa. This is a strategy coordinator job description for the Taabwa people:

Is God calling you to work among an unreached people group? If so,this assignment is for you! You will be living in Kalemie, DRC and working with the Taabwa people. Kalemie is a port city with a population over 75,000. The Taabwa live along side Lake Tanganyika the second deepest lake in the world. The work will be hard but fulfilling.

Third, you are probably wondering by now how that relates to us. Great question. We are currently in the application process with the IMB (& have been for “some time”). And before the masses of emails and phone calls begin I will go ahead and give you the information we have to-date.

  • Where are you going? – We think the DRC…
  • When are you going? – We think Spring 09…
  • Why are you going? – See Matt 28:18-20; John 10:16: Acts 1:8, 9:15-6
  • Are you taking Judah? – No. The eBay listing for him is HERE
